Beaster Bunny is an Easter-themed Eddisode released on April 1, 2021. It is the first full-length eddisode released as part of Eddsworld Beyond.

Plot[]

One night, the Easter Bunny is hopping around the park, placing Easter eggs in different places for an Easter egg hunt, when an egg-shaped meteor falls on it, hatching the monstrous Beaster Bunny.

The following day, Edd takes Tom and Matt to the Easter egg hunt. Tom, who does not celebrate Easter, refuses to participate and states that the event is for children. Matt runs off to get his face painted, and Edd immediately establishes a rivalry with a girl. Later, The Mayor, after making several bad Easter puns, announces the beginning of the Easter egg hunt, with Edd competing with the little girl over the Easter eggs and suffering numerous injuries, while the little girl gets the eggs flawlessly.

Edd and the little girl manage to get eighty-eight eggs, but Edd finds one more egg by a tree. However, the Beaster Bunny arrives and terrorizes everyone at the Easter egg hunt. At one point, it crushes the little girl, who was about to collect the egg. Edd notices a keg of Nog and attempts to fight the Beaster Bunny with it and a torch, but he misfires.

Meanwhile, a trio of tanker trucks containing pressurized Nog speed to the Easter egg hunt and the zookeeper Chester packs his animals (Clarence the turtle, Daisy the monkey, Cassandra the goat, Leonard the squirrel and Choncey the snake) into his suitcase. Chester notices that he is missing Lyle, his rabbit, and suspects that Choncey has eaten him. The tanker trucks encounter Lyle and crash in an attempt to avoid running him over. The Beaster Bunny hops onto the tank of the lead truck, but Edd notices some Nog leaking from the tank and flowing to a nearby torch. He nonchalantly kicks the torch over, igniting the Nog and sending the tank and Beaster Bunny flying.

With the Beaster Bunny gone, everyone emerges. Edd then grabs the last egg and declares himself the winner of the Easter egg hunt, much to Tom's annoyance.

Meanwhile, the tank has crashed onto Easter Island, where the Beaster Bunny has laid multiple eggs underground.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first video since "Tom's Tales of Crazy" to not use the classic intro sequence.
  • The tree in the cold-open resembles Whispy Woods from the Kirby series.
  • Thomas Ridgewell's departure from the series is acknowledged with Edd's line "I'm gonna miss Tom's car" (a pun on Ridgewell's handle "TomSka"). Matt responds "Not me! It was bumpy, we were always late, and the running costs were outrageous!" before declaring he is driving from now on. This is a reference to the frequent delays and budget issues Eddsworld: Legacy ran into, as well as Matt Hargreaves' new role as showrunner for Eddsworld Beyond.
    • The bumper on the ground next to Tom's car has a sticker that says "Baa, Baa, I'm a Car", the inverse of TomSka's song "Beep, Beep, I'm a Sheep" from Asdfmovie10.
    • The harpoon from The End is mounted on the hood of the car, and Tomee Bear's head is on the antenna.
  • Many characters can be seen among the park's crowd, including
  • As Matt shoves his way through the line of children, his face resembles Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls for one frame.
  • The Imp on the face-painter's chart resembles Blitzo from Helluva Boss.
    • The face-painter resembles and is voiced by Vivienne Medrano, the creator of Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel.
  • The Zombeh on the chart resembles the first Zombeh the gang encounters in "Zombeh Attack".
    • The chart also lists "Zombeh" right above "Pirate", referencing the in-universe Insane Zombie Pirates from Hell film series.
  • The clown on the chart resembles Suitcase from Suitcase & Sally.
  • As Edd falls over while the squirrel gnaws at his face, for a single frame, eyes appear all over his skin, the blood on his cheek turns into a ghost and a drawing of Toon Brains appears on the squirrel.
  • The gems of Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl and Steven from Steven Universe, Jebediah Springfield's tongue from The Simpsons, The Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Infinity Gauntlet from Avengers: Infinity War, King Neptune's Crown from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and the sword from "Mirror Mirror" can be seen among the volcano's treasure.
  • At 5:43, two eggs resembling the titular characters of Weebl and Bob can be seen in the background.
    • Additionally, the eggs on the mayor's shirt resemble Weebl.
  • The pair that the Beaster Bunny shoots into the sky resemble Jesse and James from the Pokémon anime, referencing their tendency to "blast off" far into the distance at the end of every episode.

  • One of the clouds the security guard flies by is shaped like the word "BRUH".
  • One of the tombstones in the cemetery says "Sandwich", referencing "Sandwich".
  • Super Guy playing video games with his sidekick Super Lad is a reference to the let's-play series Game Grumps, which their voice-actors Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan are hosts of.
  • The character Nog from Star Trek can be seen on the side of a Nog carton.
  • The broken egg on the ground at 8:09 resembles Dr. Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog.

    • Space Cats from "MovieMakers"
  • Clarence the turtle can be seen wearing an orange mask, referencing Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
  • Lyle the bunny wears a top hat in a similar manner to Mr. Herriman from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
    • The hat that he is wearing also looks like the one Hat Kid have from A Hat in Time.
  • Tomee Bear is mounted on the grill of the truck.
  • The monster in the post-credits sequence looks similar to the Xenomorph Queen from the Alien franchise.

  • It reveals that Mark has a fear of rabbits and Eduardo is still mourning for Jon after the events of The End (Part 2).

Development[]

At VidVest UK May 2017, Matt Hargreaves and Jamie Spicer-Lewis revealed that an upcoming Eddisode would be titled "The Beaster Bunny".[1] Not much was heard about the episode after that, until the release of "The Birds and The Bees", which featured a post-credits teaser for the Eddisode. The description confirmed it was retitled to "Beaster Bunny", dropping the "The". On March 19, 2021, Christopher Bingham tweeted that the Eddisode will feature over 15 speaking characters.[2]

In an Eddsworld behind-the-scenes video released as a part of Past Bing Future Bing, it was revealed that Jon Lopez began work on the Eddisode immediately after finishing the animatic for "Birds and Bees" in order to get a head start.[3] In another PBFB video detailing the final days of production on "Beaster Bunny", it was confirmed that the video is almost 10 minutes long and will be released on April 1, 2021.[4] It was also said that the original script had only 15 scenes until Matt added a 16th just 2 weeks before release.

During the final 2 weeks of production, a video of a man in a car saying "Joe Biden" helped animators Collin Bogert, David Kalev-Roy, and Wayne Degen finish animation.[5]
